Notable Owners

Woodlawn has always been the preferred choice of the local elite. Here you'll find those who helped build Detroit's legacy, including members of the Ford, Dodge, Chapin, Hudson, and Van Dusen families. Significantly, civil rights activist Rosa Parks is interred in Woodlawn’s beautiful mausoleum.

Woodlawn is the final resting place of Motown greats, including the Temptations 'David Ruffin and the Four Tops' Levi Stubbs and Renaldo "Obie" Benson, and Edward Patten, member of Gladys Knight and the Pips. C.J. Whitney, who owned the Detroit Opera House and other theatres, is interred in a domed private mausoleum, pictured above right. Living legends Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross both have sites reserved at Woodlawn. Many more notable owners can be found on a walk through this beautiful cemetery
